Nintendo Wii was the most searched for gadget surpassing all other gaming consoles, including even the continuously favorite iPod. Released in UK in December 2006, the Nintendo Wii sold 50,000 consoles in 12 hours. This works to more than a console every second! Based on the volume of Internet searches in UK, Nintendo Wii ranks fourth highest, behind “premium bonds,” “car insurance,” and “broadband.”  The search for Nintendo Wii on the Internet in UK has gone up by 147 percent, in one particular week in December.

According to the Hitwise Search IntelligenceTM data, the searches for Nintendo Wii increased, where as those for Xbox 360, PSP, and PlayStation 3, all decreased slightly. The search for Nintendo Wii also overtook that of Nintendo DS, and the search for Nintendo Wii was 125 percent higher than that of iPod.

Amazon.co.uk, GAME and Play.com were the retailers that received the maximum searches for Nintendo Wii in December 2006.
